UNILAG And Five Others Named Procurement Centres Of Excellence

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo will on Thursday launch the Sustainable Procurement, Environmental and Social Standards Enhancement (SPESSE) project for the production of experts in procurement, environmental and social standards in the country.

The event will hold at the National Universities Commission (NUC) in Abuja.

Six Federal universities will also be inaugurated today as centres of excellence in procurement for the implementation of the SPESSE.

They are:

1. Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU)

2. Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria

3. Federal University of Agriculture Makurdi (FUAM)

4. Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO)

5. University of Benin (UNIBEN)

6. University of Lagos (UNILAG)

SPESSE is a multi-sectoral project with support from the World Bank, and it seeks to address training, professionalisation and research in procurement, environmental and social standards, through certification, undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate studies.

It is also meant to support governance, increase transparency, competition, equal opportunity, sustainability as well as environmental and social standard management in the public and private sectors.
