ASUU Final Decision On Strike 2022

ASUU Final Decision On Strike 2022

It’s no longer news that the National President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is mobilizing its members in preparation for a Possible Indefinite strike.

Earlier, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) postponed its decision on strike, saying that consultations are still ongoing.

This was contained in a press statement issued by the union after its National Executive Council meeting.

However, ASUU has announced 14th February 2022 as the latest date to reveal the union’s Final Decision on the planned strike.

This means that on the 14th February 2022 the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) will either declare or Postpone its Planned strike.

Although, the majority of ASUU Branches (State and Federal Universities) are fully in support of an indefinite strike.

ASUU branches have enjoined the national body of the union to embark on a total and comprehensive strike if the federal government fails to honour agreements reached with it by February 13, 2022.

Out of the Hundreds of Federal and State Universities in Nigeria, only two factions of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University chapter, are divided over the decision to join the looming national industrial action over the welfare of members.

The two factions led by Prof. Okey Aniebo and Prof. Osita Chiaghanm met in separate congresses on Tuesday and arrived at different conclusions.

Education has been jeopardized having us on a constant thinking why the government in the first place withhold payment of salaries for these boards having fully known that it’s right to get paid for the job they do… The fact is that even we the students are equally tired of educational system… The board ASUU should just do whatever they want cause they have tried enough… I see the government bodies not doing anything positive about this issues cause their children are neither schooling in Nigeria

I’m not in support of stike and I am not in support of the federal government, to justify this statement, Education is the only access left for Nigerian government ,because Nigeria is not civilized,a civilized country has to care for the welfare of the citizens. And in another way round Nigeria is not globalized because of capitalism.private ownerships of properties make Nigeria to remain lossly. And the most painful thing is that, theyhave sell the future of this country nothing is left behind.so the federal government should make it possible so that this Asuu problem will come to an end.

You can’t have your cake and eat it.
The level of corruption going on in our higher institutions is nothing to write home about. Yet we all wag our tongues heaping the blames on the Federal government. Truth be told, aside tuition fees being remitted to the FG’s account, the University managements make billions every year from students. We talk of:
*Post-Utme form thousands of aspirants buy from the schools.
*Checking of Post-Utme results which of course requires naira notes to check.
1.Clearance done by freshers which the universities soley remit into her microfinance bank accounts.
      2. Freshers who still offer school courses are subjected to buy textbooks and register for Laboratory practicals which worth thousands of Naira. Yet in all these the labs are nothing to write home about. Not fully equipped no ventilation no competent lab instructors.
      3. The various department levy students to pay for departmental dues which are meant to be used for managing and maintaining their laboratories and workshop.
      3. Majority of these lecturers don’t even lecture, they just come read out their notes and buzz off. Most won’t even give you a comprehensive note to read.
      4. Rejecting the IPPIS is another class of deception. I think they all have something sinister up their sleeves.
      5. WE ALL SHOULD ENDEAVOR TO LIVE A LIFE OF TRANSPARENCY AND NOT PLAY THE FOOL.

I’ve been a victim of numerous strike.
I’ve been in tertiary institution for over eight years now having no carryover or spillover.
During my diploma,I encountered almost 2years strike and now in the University facing many strikes as well.
What always comes to my mind when I hear about strike is just to is to involve myself in any form of activity just to earn a living bcoz I am tired of this schooling since they don’t want us to finish the study and move on our life.

    ASUU…RIDE ON!!!!!!!!…
Teaching and lecturing is a lucrative profession. Lecturers are supposed to be paid because they put efforts in raising up future leaders but since they are not seeing money or being paid they quit coming to classes because the zeal is not there, nothing is motivating them, mind you, these people also have family to fend for. ASUU stand on your right and fight for your members, declare strike 14th. Some people said it’ll affect us the students, it has always been affecting us and it’ll keep on affecting us if d strike doesn’t hold because no lecturer will want to lecture students without being paid. PERIODTTTT!!!?

Actually am not in support of the ASUU’s strike, not because am a student that am trying to neglect the ASUU’s right but for benefit and bright future of our upbringing ones. Today Strike has becoming the backword of children. In years back, parent are laiddown of their children education due financial problem, but today, is ASUU. According to rules governing the university, “no student shall be allow into the campus without a rigesterationslip”. “My question is, WHY THE ASUU STRIKE..??”

I will love to plead with federal government and ASUU to consider the lockdown the effect of the lockdown, then come to agreement in order to postpone the strike because the strike will cause more harm than good to the educational system… thanks

ASUU is right..School is their work ..That’s where they eat from and students are their customers.
However I think in addition to asking for money, they could also try to learn how to teach. Nigerian universities is crap. The lecturers are so dump. You go to school for a whole semester but u haven’t learnt any reasonable thing.
I think the curriculum needs to be changed.. Instead of filling our heads with dydx, why not at least tell us what it is used for. I know lecturers are so smart and all, they’ve never cheated in the exams hall and they have never failed a course b4.. But I still wonder why they have not used their wisdom to invent anything.
In conclusion.. They teach us what they were taught..they don’t care about us.. Itz every man for himself

No strike should hold. It is proactive to reach an agreement rather striking before reaching same agreement.

It is Crystal clear that it is now a game of interest. Asuu fighting for the stipend in other change cars and continue to Rome the universities tarred roads with comfort and use there comfort as medium to give student grades they deserve not, neglecting not the hardworking student. While fed Gov. Keep on doing the regular by collecting loans here an there to enrich themselves and their children.
Asuu might say they are fighting for our interest. My question is all this while that fed Gov. Have been giving them little out of the which the request what visible impact have we student come across?
The fight is of the interest of Asuu need to live a lavish life just like our politicians and our politicians are self-centered an are not ready to give room to any except there’s sons and daughters.
    Very pathetic 😎😥
May God Help Nigeria my country.
    Amen

Well we all know that strike is not a new thing in Nigeria but honestly speaking we shouldn’t go on strike, because this strike of a thing is affecting Nigeria educational system a lot. Note I am not in support of FG and their wicked acts, but ASUU need to understand that them going on strike will affect us greatly as university students.

Most of you don’t really know what is happening, a University Prof earns less than #500/per month, while a sitting Senator without a master degree earns #30M/per month.
Mind you, not all lecturers will become Prof b4 retirement; so imaging what a PhD lecturer will earn per month.
Imaging when you work and ur salary is not paid, how will u feel?
The Federal government led by Buhari has failed this country. They don’t care about anybody except thieves and family. Non of their children is schooling in any Nigeria universities. The only language they understand is STRIKE.
ASSU pls go on indefinite strike.

ASUU as a Trade/ Academic Union has been patient and painstaking enough with the Federal Government on their multi – demands / agreement regarding research funding, infrastructure and autonomy etc dating back to 2009 ( 13 years back) and hitherto unfulfilled. Whereas, FG had in those last 13 years channeled funds to other sectors of the economy that are ranked secondary much to the exclusion and abandonment of this education sector which is very key and germaine to the growth and development of the Nigerian State. FG had all along unnecessarily foot dragged on the ASUU demands/ agreement.
To this end, i give a pat to ASUU ‘s back on the 30 day warning strike embarked upon as from today 14/2/2022.
